Bawan Pokhar temple is an ancient Hindu temple situated in Vaishali at the bank of a pond, named Bawan Pokhar (Pokhar means pond). It is a stone structure of medieval period. It is believed that the temple was built during pala period by pallava kings. The Pala dynasty ruled from 8th century to 12th century CE in the regions comprising Bihar and Bengal. The development of art had been in a full-fledged manner during the Mauryas and Guptas which was further carried by the Pala rulers. In Bawan Pokhar temple a large number of Hindu deities are enshrined at one place and worshipped together which are made up of black basalt stones. A four headed Shivalinga was found buried in the premises of this temple. And the Shivalinga was made up of black basalt stone a significant feature of the architecture of the Pallava dynasty. The most significant feature of this temple is that various idols of Hindu gods are placed and worshiped here. The devotee of all religion like Buddhist, jains and Hindus come to visit this place.
